Meeting Minutes 7/26/09 1. Double Decker Recap: Over 200 riders with a profit of $6,118. Email Jason to post some pictures from the ride. 2. Plein Air Classic Recap: 12,895 income. 10,969 expenses. After paying moonbase and portapottie rental, around $1200 profit from the race. Plaque goes to Bo for getting things squared away with the police. Plaque goes to John Cope for taking care of the kid’s race. It was a great festival atmosphere and thanks to all the volunteers. 3. Brian Dahl’s Birthday Ride: Tentative date for the ride is 10/31/09 4. New treasurer. Vivian has done a fantastic job as our treasurer, however she is ready to turn the reins over to someone else. Vivian has promised to help train the new person to make the transition as smooth as possible. We need someone to step up! 5. Signs at Whirlpool trails. Someone needs to head up the project. Approach University about making the signs. It is University property. 6. Clear Creek Challenge: Planning is going well. The date of the race is 9/20/09. We need to increase local riders and younger local riders. 7. Jennifer Mizenko and John Cope have been participating in regional triathlons. 8. Mike Mossing: LOU Pathways has been pursuing grants for several projects including: Bike Lights. Mountain Bike path at FNC park. Bike for Loan at the University. 9. Karen Mogridge: Bike, Walk, Mississippi. Now there are 33 trained cycling instructors in Mississippi , with 3 located in Oxford. Check out the Bike, Walk Mississippi website for updates. We all agreed that we should focus our direction on increasing the number and safety of cyclists in Oxford. We discussed what would be the best way to accomplish this. Education of motorists seemed to be the prevailing theme in the discussion. A billboard about cycling safety was discussed and thought to be a very good idea. Somewhere on Jackson Ave possibly? Other great ideas were “Share the Road” road signs on busy cycling roadways. It was decided to form a committee to address these issues. Members that volunteered to be on the committee are, John, Bo Ragon, Chris Lee, and Nathan Hinton. 12. Upcoming cycling events. · Bikes Blues and Bayous. Greenwood, MS Saturday August 1st.
